Peter Hillebrecht's Lunch with Arnold

Created by carol regulski 3 years ago
Arnold was an enthusiastic supporter and founder treasurer of the High Wycombe Town Twinning Association (twinned with Kelkheim in Germany). On one visit from Kelkheim to High Wycombe, Peter was acting as guide for a fellow visitor who was heading for Oxford. As a result, he had no time to change for lunch at the Flackwell Heath Golf Club. "No problem", said Arnold, "You will be able to get in as my guest, no matter how you are dressed." This turned out to be not entirely true, due to the Club's strict dress code. However, Arnold could not bear to see Peter miss out on lunch. Accordingly, a jacket that had belonged to one of the gardeners was rustled up. This looked good on Peter, although it was not particularly fashionable and clearly tailored to a different size. It also had a ripped sleeve. The finishing touch was something resembling a tie, which Peter had to put round his neck. Now Peter was dressed for lunch in accordance with the Club rules. Much laughter all round!
